“THE BRAKING POWER IS INSANE,” said Anthony Martin.     “The distance the car can stop at when at full speed is incredible and takes some getting used to.”

The young racer from Kalgoorlie had just completed last weekend’s first testing with the renowned Andretti Autosport, at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway.     It was a massive jump from his 260hp Pro Mazda car to the 450hp Indy Lights beast, with its 330km/h top speed.

A full-on Saturday and Sunday, with four gruelling 40-minute sessions each day, was more about Anthony getting used to the ride and testing its limits and response of changes to the car.     “So I learnt a lot in the two days”.

The 635kg Dallara IL-15 is powered by a turbocharged Mazda 2.0 litre MZR, riding on Cooper Tires.     It’s 4.8m long and 1.9m wide.

While Anthony waits to see where to now, his family here in Perth is pulling out all the stops to try to get a budget together to follow his dream of a seat in the 2018 Indy Lights.    Follow that dream on
